First time
- Turn the TV fully on. Put the phone on the same Wi‑Fi as the TV, not a guest network or VPN.
- Open Settings in the app and tap Scan again. Tap your TV when it appears.
- On the TV, choose Allow once, then wait. The app retries every few seconds and each retry can show a new Allow dialog. Do not tap the TV again while it is working.
- If Scan does not see the TV, enter the TV’s IP address in Settings. On the TV that is usually Settings → General → Network → Network Status → IP Settings.
TV settings that must be on
Look under General → External Device Manager (or Device Connect Manager). Allow devices to connect, and leave Device List able to show this phone.
For power from the phone, turn on Power On with Mobile and IP Remote if those options exist. Turn Eco / Auto Power Saving off if the TV will not wake from standby.
Using the remote
After pairing, the remote opens when you start the app. Volume, mute, arrows, OK, Back, Home, and the other keys go to the last Samsung you allowed.
Power turns the TV off with the usual power key. To turn it back on, stay on the same Wi‑Fi. The app uses the TV’s network wake if the screen is dark.
Typing a search
The keyboard button lights up when the TV is using Samsung’s own text box. Tap it and type on the phone.
Apps that draw their own letter grid, including YouTube TV search on many sets, ignore that. Use arrows and OK on those screens.
Mute and volume on the Home Screen
Connect to the TV in the app once first.
Android: long-press an empty spot, tap Widgets, and add Mute or volume. When you place it, choose mute, volume up, or volume down.
iPhone: touch and hold the Home Screen, tap +, and add Mute or volume. The smallest widget is a small square. iOS 17 or later is required for the buttons to work without opening the app.
Scan finds nothing
The TV must be on. The phone must be on the same Wi‑Fi, not cellular, guest Wi‑Fi, or a VPN. Mesh routers sometimes hide devices from each other; try the TV’s IP in Settings.
The TV denied the phone
A Deny is sticky. On the TV open Device List and delete every entry for this app, then tap Forget saved devices in Settings and pair again. Tap Allow once and wait.
Power does not turn the TV on
Use Power in the app to turn the TV off at least once after installing, so the app knows the screen is dark. Then Power can wake it.
Wi‑Fi standby is picky. Power On with Mobile and IP Remote need to be on. A TV in deep eco sleep often will not wake; a wired network is more reliable.
Keys do nothing
If the TV has gone to sleep, tap Power first. If the phone changed Wi‑Fi, open Settings and scan again. An idle connection can drop; the next key should reconnect.
The app does not list apps from the TV. Newer Samsung sets no longer send that list.
